Legend:

Opacity and glazing properties

The opacity of a pigmented colour is not only depending on the thickness of the colour application but also on the kind and concentration of the pigment as well as on the kind binder in the colour. all colours have been submitted to the same testing method: satndardized application on black and white striped saturated base. this allows a classification with the following 4 symbols:

opaqueSemi-opaqueSemi-transparenttransparent

Lightfasteness

This describes the durability of a colour in daylight. A number of influencing factors play a role too, like intensity of sunlight, temperature, moisture, oxygen or gas content of the air.

Color Index and Pigments names

The Color Index system is an international standard to denominate dyes and pigments. A combination of letters and numbers indicate the colour category. For example: PO 20, means Pigment Orange 20. Color Index names are: PW (Pigment White) / PY (Pigment Yellow) / PO (Pigment Orange) / PR (Pigment Red) / PV (Pigment Violet) / PB (Pigment Blue) / PG (Pigment Green) / PBr (Pigment Brown) / PBk (Pigment Black).

Grand Godet.

Absolute purity of pigments, free from fillers and unnecessary additives. Only natural gum arabic and glycerine. This is Renesans Grand Godet watercolour, where light flows from the depth of the paper, and transparent glazes reveal the freshness and delicacy of colour.

A range of 50 pure colours created with respect for the nature of each pigment. Their exceptional intensity allows for multiple glazing layers while preserving the texture and whiteness of the paper. Each colour has been individually developed, the pigment finely ground and precisely combined with the binder. Our handcrafted production process aims to preserve the natural structure of each pigment and the remarkable transparency of the colours.

Characteristics of the pigments used:
– Highest quality and excellent lightfastness
– Perfect transparency, depth, and purity
– Organic, inorganic, and natural origins ensuring clean, unique mixtures

The binder consists of natural Kordofan gum arabic and glycerine, forming a cohesive and rich base that gives pigments vibrancy, intensity, durability, and excellent adhesion to paper. Thanks to the perfect balance of ingredients, the paint retains freshness and is easy to reactivate, regardless of the paper type.

Selected shades maintain the natural granulation characteristic of, for example, earth pigments, creating unique textures and depth. The staining level reflects the individual nature of each pigment, from subtle to intense. Fascinating mixtures separate into intriguing hues, creating their own spectacles on watercolour paper.

Grand Godet watercolours are available in large 7 ml pans, durable and convenient to use, especially with larger brushes. Grand Godet watercolours retain the same intensity even after multiple dilutions, making them highly efficient and ideal for both studio and plein-air painting.
